Rolfontein Nature Reserve

Rolfontein is 49 km from Orania, about 40 minutes on the R369. Located 16 km north of Petrusville and bordering Vanderkloof Dam, South Africa's second-largest dam by volume, Rolfontein Nature Reserve covers about 6,300 hectares of rugged Karoo beauty. Established in 1970, the reserve features mountains, expansive plains, dolerite koppies, and wooded mountain kloofs. Wildlife includes white rhino, Burchell's zebra, brown hyena, springbok, gemsbok and other antelope, as well as the shy aardvark and aardwolf. The Pied Barbet trail is a short 4 km walk. For overnight stays there is a tented camp and two huts for hikers. The reserve's location far from city lights makes it exceptional for stargazing, with the Milky Way clearly visible on clear nights. Nearby Vanderkloof Dam offers additional water sports including waterskiing, swimming, windsurfing, and boating.
