What Is Wilger Rus?

Wilger Rus is Orania’s premier self-catering accommodation. You can book the Vacation Home in the heart of Orania now. The River Stay, a hut on the banks of the Orange River, opens later, and the River Villa is being built next to it. The name “Wilger Rus” translates loosely from Afrikaans as “Willow Rest” or “Willow Peace,” a reflection of the willow trees that line the riverbanks and the tranquil atmosphere that defines a stay here.

The Three Accommodation Options

The Vacation Home

The Vacation Home is a spacious family house located in the residential part of Orania. It accommodates up to 6 guests and is the most practical option for families or groups. The home is fully equipped for self-catering with a modern kitchen including top-of-the-range appliances, a braai area, a comfortable lounge, and air conditioning throughout. The house is wheelchair-accessible, making it suitable for guests with mobility requirements.

The River Stay

The River Stay sits on the banks of the Orange River and accommodates up to 2 guests. It is a reed and canvas hut, open at the front, with a lawn running down to the river. Solar power runs the lights, fridge and charging, and the stove and oven run on gas. There is no WiFi, but cell signal is good. It is not taking bookings yet: join the waiting list to hear when it opens.

The River Villa

The River Villa is being built on a separate property next to the River Stay, by the Orange River. It is not open yet and cannot be booked.

What to Expect on Arrival

Check-in at Wilger Rus is available between 14:00 and 19:00. The properties are self-catering, meaning you bring your own food and prepare your own meals. The kitchens are stocked with all the basics: cooking utensils, crockery, pots and pans, a kettle, toaster, and full-size oven.

Guests often note that the level of detail in the properties surprises them. Common items like spices, cooking oil, washing-up liquid, and cleaning supplies are provided so you do not need to stop at a shop the moment you arrive.

The Privacy Guarantee

One of the most distinctive features of Wilger Rus is that only one group is ever booked at a time. Whether you rent the Vacation Home now, or the River Stay once it opens, the place is exclusively yours for the duration of your stay. There are no strangers sharing your space.
