    Since the establishment of Afrikaner self-determination in the North-West Cape, these three principles have been considered essential. Today, we can proudly say that Orania has strong, independent institutions. Together with our own land and labor, this has enabled us to achieve a high level of self-determination.

    Historical Foundation

    Afrikaner Freedom Foundation (1988)

    Founded by Prof. Carel Boshoff and like-minded individuals to realize Afrikaner self-determination in the North-West Cape. Their ideas stemmed from research conducted by SABRA (South African Bureau for Racial Affairs).

    Orania Purchase (1990)

    After seeing an advertisement in Landbouweekblad that the construction town Orania was for sale by the Department of Water Affairs, the Foundation successfully acquired the town through a tender process.

    Community Institutions

    Education & Research

    EPOG (Research Institute)

    Research institution focusing on heritage preservation, managing museums, archives, Africana library and monuments. Formerly SABRA.

    Originally the South African Bureau for Racial Affairs (SABRA), now focuses on research and heritage preservation.

    Schools & Educational Institutions

    Local educational institutions serving the community with mother-tongue education and cultural values.

    Community-focused education emphasizing Afrikaans language and cultural heritage.

    Governance & Administration

    Orania Representative Council (OVR)

    Democratically elected governing body representing all residents, elected every five years on municipal election dates.

    The only government body democratically elected by all Orania residents, maintaining unique status and political development.

    Orania Share Block Company

    Originally Vluytjeskraal Share Block Ltd, now Orania Share Block (RF) Ltd, known as the Orania Town Council.

    Property owners receive share blocks, governing municipal functions and town management.

    Orania Movement

    Political institution driving self-determination goals, formed in 2001 from merger of Afrikaner Freedom Foundation, Volkswag and Spansaam.

    Member organization with supporters across South Africa and over 100 countries, supporting Orania projects.

    Orania's own bank providing comprehensive financial services to residents - one of the community's major success stories.

    Full-service banking institution serving the local community with comprehensive financial services.

    Orania Growth Fund

    Investment institution attracting external investments and lending to local businesses within Orania.

    Financial institution focused on community development and business support.

    Ora Currency System

    Local exchange medium for Orania, currently in its sixth series, representing economic independence.

    Alternative currency system promoting local economic activity and self-sufficiency.

    Orania Management Services (OBD)

    Company owning all undeveloped land in Orania, with original investors as shareholders.

    Land ownership decreases as Orania develops, managing community growth and development.

    Kambro Cooperative

    Resident-founded cooperative purchasing agricultural land, some adjacent to town core, others several kilometers away.

    Agricultural land ownership initiative by community members for farming and development.

    Vluytjeskraal North Estate (VKN)

    Recently acquired land north of town for residential and agricultural development.

    Expanding Orania's territory with new development opportunities for residents.
