Rolfontein Nature Reserve

Located 16km north of Petrusville and bordering South Africa's second-largest dam (Vanderkloof), Rolfontein Nature Reserve covers 8,400 hectares of rugged Karoo beauty. Established in 1970, the reserve features mountains, expansive plains, dolerite koppies, and wooded mountain kloofs. Wildlife includes white rhino, black wildebeest, gemsbok, red hartebeest, Burchell's zebra, springbok, brown hyena, and over 200 bird species. The 4km Pied Barbet hiking trail offers easy exploration, with two overnight huts available for hikers. The reserve's location far from city lights makes it exceptional for stargazing, with the Milky Way clearly visible on clear nights. Nearby Vanderkloof Dam offers additional water sports including waterskiing, swimming, windsurfing, and boating.
