Fishing & Canoeing on the Orange River

The Orange River flows right through Orania, offering exceptional water-based activities for visitors. When you book one of our river cabins at Wilger Rus, two kayaks are waiting for you to use and explore the river at your leisure. Fishing enthusiasts can catch yellowfish (up to 4kg), carp, Mozambique tilapia, and catfish directly from the riverbanks or arrange guided fly-fishing expeditions. Family-friendly activities include river tube rides, raft rides, and relaxing sundowner cruises as the Karoo sun sets over the water. The warm river water is safe year-round with no crocodiles or hippos in this section. Multi-day canoe trips can be arranged from nearby operators, offering camping under the stars along the riverbanks. Birdwatching is excellent, with Cape cormorants, goliath herons, fish eagles, and kingfishers commonly spotted.
